As a dedicated man of science, I never miss The Simpsons, which is -- quite empirically --- the greatest TV show ever. So I'm almost positive this was a joke onthe show many years ago. At some point, Homer got so fat he couldn't use his fingers to dial the phone, so he got a widget to cover his fingers with smaller finger extenders. Am I remembering this right? Someone help me out.
Well, it's no joke, gentle reader. Or, at least, it's no longer a joke.
Behold the amazing AweThumb. Designed to reduce stress on fingers, and
improve typing accuracy, the AweThumb is a plastic doohickey designed for the poor and suffering Blackberry,
PDA or mobile game user. The device fits over your big, clumsy, sweaty
natural thumb and provides a smaller, drier, more nubile plastic thumb tip. Genius!
Fits on the index finger too, I'm assured, for those of you who swing
that way. Also can be used to replace the finger or stylus on most
touch screens, with the significant exception of the iPhone. Let's see,
what else? Oh, yes. The "microfiber" carrying pouch also serves as a
wipe for your mobile device screen. Order now, and you can get two
AweThumb sets for only $11.98 plus $3.50 shipping and handling.
Too bad Apple's touch screen technology will eventually render the
tiny-button approach obsolete. Still, there will be tiny button devices on the
market for a while, and as an entrepreneurial venture, this isn't the
craziest idea ever. In fact, it's probably better than most. Upon such
initiative was this great nation built! Plus, it makes a nice holiday gift. Like I've always contended, nothing says "I care" like a prosthetic thumb.
