When a celeb is carrying an unborn child, the press and their fans want to be first to know when the baby arrives. The demand for the first photo of the newborn, along with the fanatics going to extreme legnths to share in the experience makes celebs and their handlers extra cautious about letting the details leak.
Grammy winning singer, Erykah Badu on the other hand brought some 4,000 fans and friends alike with her into the delivery room yesterday for the birth of her baby girl. How? By using her Twitter account to give real-time updates, including "Morning, I'm in labor." and "Home birth, no painkillers, about five hours, she was a little past due date, but I didn't mind waiting. Breath."
Now that is one gifted multi-tasker!
Alongside Badu was her boyfriend and father of the child, up-and-coming rapper/producer Jay Electronica. Jay, too, was providing his followers with updates in the form of 140 character tweets.
I think the Twitterverse has welcomed it's first child, unless there is another real-time Twitter birth that I am no aware of. The baby was given the name Mars, definitely a different name but at least they didn't start the baby's name with an @ symbol. Her short name, just four letters, will allow them the use of 136 characters for future tweets as well.
I'm hoping that this Paul Blart thing can boost the economy by increasing the sales of Segways. You remember the Segway, the vehicle that was going to eliminate walking.
Yeah, well that didn't really happen. I'm still walking, you're probably still walking. According to Wikipedia, as of 2006, only 23,500 Segways have been purchased.
At $4,000 a pop , a couple Segway sales here and there from one of the millions of Paul Blart viewers would really get this economy going in the right direction.
